This double lesson introduces learners to the role of central banks in an economy. We start by looking at some notable central banks around the world to stimulate interest. We then look at the Bank of England in more detail before discussing the key functions of central banks such as implementing monetary policy, banker to the government, banker to the banks and regulation in the banking industry, particularly after the 2008 financial crisis. This free lesson develops students’ understanding from the previous lesson on the product life cycle and now introduces learners to various extension strategies that can be used to lengthen the life of a product. We look at the advantages and disadvantages of each strategy - this can be done with a kinaesthetic task where students walk around the class and note down the pros and cons of the different strategies on their sheet (quite a few to remember and not so fun to write it all down from the board).
